AUSTIN (KXAN)- Austin fire crews fought a fire Wednesday night that damaged the part of the property of a popular South Austin sub shop.

An AFD spokesperson says the fire broke out at a storage barn at 203 E Riverside Dr. around 11 p.m.

When fire crews got there, they saw flames coming from the barn.

The fire spread to the property of the Thundercloud Subs next door.

Fire officials say crews were able to put out the fire.

At one point, crews were told several homeless people may have been inside when the fire broke out.

Crews checked the barn but didn’t find anybody.

The fire caused $20,000 in damage to the barn and $30,000 in damage to the building owned by Thundercloud.

The cause of the fire was accidental. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
