AUSTIN (KXAN) — Dec. 23, 2015 will go down as the warmest Christmas Eve Eve in Austin history.
“81 degrees at Camp Mabry today. We thought it might happen, and it did,” said KXAN Chief Meteorologist Jim Spencer during a newscast.
So what is a person to do when it is this warm? Hit up Lady Bird Lake in shorts and a swimsuit, of course.
“I’m really enjoying it,” said Michele Feinstein, who is visiting from Long Island, N.Y. She and a friend jumped in a kayak Wednesday afternoon, and have a 6-mile hike planned before the wet weather is predicted to move in this weekend.
The Gorner family decided to spend the afternoon on the water as well, since they will be on the slopes in Colorado next week.
“It will be neat–within one week be stand up paddle boarding in Austin and also in the snow,” said Jay Gorner.
Families who prefer the cold, were hitting the ice skating rink at Whole Foods.
“It brings a little winter wonderland to an otherwise steamy day,” said Whole Foods Market Spokesperson Rachel Malish.
It is exactly what 12-year-old Bria Glaser needed.
“I like the cold,” said Bria. “That’s kind of what I look forward to in the winter.”
