HORSESHOE BAY, Texas (KXAN) — A man convicted of repeated sexual offenses against a seven year old in Horseshoe Bay has been sentenced to life in prison.
Russell Lee Burke, 57, was found guilty of four counts of indecency with a child by sexual contact on Thursday, Dec. 17. The district court judge sentenced Burke to four life sentences, to be served concurrently. The statement released from Llano County states, “The defendant must serve 35 years and will be 92 years old before his first opportunity for release on parole, should he survive.”
The offenses were committed between 2012 and 2013 at Burke’s home in Horseshoe Bay. The victim’s parents became friends with Burke when he moved to Llano County from Colorado in the Summer of 2011. Trial evidence showed that he molested at least three other young children in Horseshoe Bay. Two of these victims testified at the trial.
Before this trial, Burke was already a registered sex offender, due to convictions for sexual abuse of two other children in Colorado in 1994. Another victim who was abused by the man in Colorado also shared testimony at the trial.
The county’s district attorney and assistant district attorney agreed that Burke was one of the worst pedophiles they have encountered in their careers.
