Texas’ Taylor energized by familiar faces

AUSTIN (KXAN) — Riding a six-game winning streak, the Longhorns are on their longest break between games. Based off Texas’ recent performance, the break is well-deserved.

The Texas turnaround has been propelled mostly by the play of Cameron Ridley and Javan Felix. On Saturday at Stanford, Isaiah Taylor stole the show. Taylor hit the game-winning shot with a second left on the clock, finishing with 26 points and six assists.

Even better for the Longhorns guard, he did it with 40 family and friends in attendance. Taylor grew up in Hayward, Calif., not far from the Stanford campus.

“It feels good to play in front of family and friends, it gave me energy, it gave the type of enthusiasm to put on a show for them, for my team and for us to go out there and get the win,” Taylor said.

“I’ve some guys we’ve coached over the years that have gone home and really played poorly because you want to do so well that sometimes if you focus on that result, you get away from the process that goes into doing well,” Smart said.

RIDLEY NAMED BIG 12 PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Texas center Cameron Ridley was named Big 12 Player of the Week on Monday. Ridley was a block shy of a triple-double in last Tuesday’s win over Appalachian State, finishing with 19 points, 11 rebounds and nine blocks. Ridley had another double-double (10 points and 10 rebounds) Saturday against Stanford.
