AUSTIN (KXAN) — A man is charged with assault with injury after police say he grabbed a woman in front of him at Austin Bergstrom International Airport and placed her into a chokehold, according to an arrest affidavit.
Police say the assault happened on Dec. 19 as the two were standing in line to go through the security checkpoint. The victim said she was with her two children when a stranger reached around her with his right arm and placed his forearm around the front of her throat and squeezed her in a chokehold, according to the affidavit. The victim said she pushed the suspect, Derek Chapman, 23, away and he walked off.
When officers met up with Chapman, he said he “was the Son of God” and that he could feel a “bad vibe” from the woman in front of him.
Chapman is currently in the Travis County Jail and his bond is set at $20,000.
