FAYETTE COUNTY, Texas (KXAN) — With the help of a police canine, Fayette County Sheriff’s deputies seized roughly $290,000 during a traffic stop.

According to the press release, officers pulled over a Honda van Dec. 13 around 6 p.m. on I-10.

Police say “criminal indicators” alerted them that the vehicle needed to be searched. After the driver consented to the search, the police dog, Lobos, did a sweep of the vehicle indicating a suspicious scent in the back of the van.

Investigating the car’s seat, police found $290,000 sewn into the interior of the car.

The driver of the Honda, Domingo Ortiz, has been arrested and is accused of money laundering. He is in custody at the Fayette County Jail.
