Man’s body found at southeast Austin gas station ruled a homicide

AUSTIN (KXAN) — The death of a man whose body was found lying on the ground at an Exxon gas station in southeast Austin early Saturday morning is being investigated as a homicide. Police say 27-year-old Eric Sorrels’ body was discovered at the corner of Highway 183 and Burleson Road around 1:45 a.m. after a vehicle disturbance was called in.

Police say a 911 caller reported they were following a stolen car but when officers arrived they found Sorrels dead in the parking lot. No one else was on scene when officers arrived.

A person of interest is in custody at the Travis County Jail on unrelated charges.
