Closure on South Lamar Boulevard affecting business owners

AUSTIN (KXAN) — Construction has traffic down to one lane on northbound South Lamar Boulevard near Oltorf Street, causing a long backup.

Nearby construction on a new apartment complex is causing the lane closure. It starts near Bluebonnet Lane and extrends to Del Cuerto Road. The lane is shut down seven days a week, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Over the past year or two, South Lamar Boulevard has seen several other lane closures like this due to all the construction happening in the area.

The owner of Sazón Mexican Cafe, Margarito Aranda, says the lane closures are costing them money, especially at lunchtime. “When you shut down one lane of traffic going northbound and you have folks who have an hour for lunch they aren’t going to want to sit in traffic for 15-20 minutes of that hour.”

The northbound lane closure is expected to reopen in January.
