AUSTIN (KXAN) — After months of discussion behind closed doors, the Austin Independent School District announced they are looking to buy two pieces of property for future high schools in South Austin.
A statement issued during the board meeting Monday night said the following:
“The Board consensus is that we are to move forward with due diligence in the evaluation of identified parcels of land to purchase in both southeast and southwest Austin. The administrative staff will work with our real estate consultant to bring to the Board their recommendations for the purchase of land within the next few months. The purchase of this land is an investment in the future of our school district and city and is based upon projections of growth and future land availability.”
Voters approved the purchase of land in 2008 for a high school in South Austin. It did not include money to cover construction of a school building. The board would have to go back to voters for another bond issue to make that happen.
