Cloudy Austin tap water blamed on too much air

AUSTIN (KXAN) — If your tap water is looking like watered down milk, your eyes aren’t deceiving you. Austin Water Utility says the cloudy or milky looking water from the tap is due to air trapped in the water.

Austin Water says the problem was caused by an air compressor inserting too much air into the water at one of the water treatment plants and has since been corrected. Austin Water says they started flushing the lines on Thursday to fix the problem but some customers might still see the less-than-clear tap water over the next day or so. Water quality tests show the water is safe to drink.

Most of the incidents of cloudy water have been in north central Austin.
