Family disturbance in Bastrop Co. ends in deadly shooting

BASTROP COUNTY, Texas (KXAN) — A family disturbance turned into a deadly shooting in Bastrop County on Sunday, Dec. 6.

The Bastrop County Sheriff’s Office deputies were called to a home in the 100 block of Scrappers Cove just after 2 a.m. When deputies arrived at the home, they found 36-year-old Diocelina Duarte-Diaz dead from a gunshot wound. Authorities also found Antonio Diaz, 50, with severe head trauma. He was transported to the hospital for treatment and was released from UMC Brackenridge on Friday, Dec. 11.

According to the authorities, initial information indicates the couple were going through a divorce and Antonio came to the home and shot Diocelina during the disturbance. The couple’s son, 20-year-old Christian Diaz, then assaulted Antonio causing his head injuries.

Diaz has been charged with murder following an investigation. He remains in the Bastrop County Jail on a $1 million bond. The case is still under investigation.
