Suspected South Congress bank robber arrested

AUSTIN (KXAN) — A man who entered a South Congress Avenue bank Thursday morning and demanded money from a teller was arrested later that day.

At around 6:30 p.m. Thursday, agents from the FBI Violent Crimes Task Force and officers with the Austin Police Department caught and arrested Justin Randall Knoche, 23, for the robbery of the BBVA Compass Bank at 2401 S. Congress Ave.

Austin Police say Knoche was caught with almost all of the money taken in the robbery. He was arrested without incident and has been booked into Travis County Jail for Robbery by Threat.

Knoche was seen on a surveillance camera entering the bank at 9:30 a.m and was in custody nine hours later. No weapons were displayed and no injuries were reported during the robbery.

The case remains under investigation by APD Robbery detectives. Anyone with information on the bank robbery are urged to call the robbery tip line at (512) 974-5092 or Crime Stoppers at (512) 472-TIPS.

Police say this is Austin’s eleventh bank robbery of 2015.
