KXAN News wins all key newscasts in November

AUSTIN (KXAN) — Central Texas news viewers have spoken loud and clear regarding who they turn to for their local, in-depth and investigative news.

According to Nielsen ratings, KXAN News is the market’s #1 choice for local news in the 2015 November sweep period. KXAN News delivered first place finishes in all key newscast time periods Monday through Friday in household ratings and grew year-to-year in all key time periods.

KXAN topped competitors as viewers’ top choice when they woke up in the mornings, when they got home from work and before they went to bed.

“Viewers again trusted KXAN as their source for severe weather coverage, when floods threatened Austin at the end of October,” KXAN News Director Chad Cross said. “KXAN’s November success reflects we’re investigating issues that directly affect our viewers.”

In November, KXAN Investigator Brian Collister uncovered how DPS troopers misrepresented the race of drivers who were pulled over in traffic stops. The story spurred change at the state level. The KXAN Investigative team also exposed how a state law meant to keep students safe on school buses is failing.

KXAN.com also experienced growth in the month of November, bringing in 2.5 percent more unique visitors from the previous year.  Page views on KXAN.com were up 18.7 percent from November 2014.

KXAN President and General Manager Eric Lassberg summed it up, “Our viewers continue to show a growing appreciation of our in-depth and investigative storytelling focus. There’s definite total team enthusiasm and momentum to build on this and continue to inch up our viewer value performance.”
