HAVANA (KXAN) – Texas Governor Greg Abbott and his trade delegation to Cuba spent their first evening in Havana, Cuba dining at La Fontana Paladar, the same resturaunt where Beyoncé Knowles-Carter and Jay-Z dined during their trip to the island nation.

Monday’s dinner was sponsored by the Houston Airport System which is keenly awaiting a time when regularly-scheduled air traffic to and from Cuba will be allowed.

Prior to the dinner, the Deputy Chief of Mission for the United States Embassy to Cuba, Scott Hamilton, briefed the delegation on the Cuban political and economic environment.

On Tuesday, the governor and his delegation will travel to the Port of Mariel, one of Havana’s most advanced ports, which could become a trading port between Cuba and Texas. Then, the delegation will begin meetings with Cuban economic and governmental officials.
