Neighbors see more car burglaries in Buda

Buda car burglaries continue in Whispering Hollow neighborhood.

BUDA, Texas (KXAN) — Barry Beard cherishes his family, especially his four kids. He’s feeling a little more protective these days after a rash of car burglaries and thefts in the Whispering Hollow neighborhood in Buda.

“My door was popped open, about that far, dome lights were on, I noticed that immediately when I walked out of the house,” says Barry.

Barry says a stranger opened his truck door Saturday night on Bayou Bend, luckily he didn’t have anything too valuable inside, so he says nothing was taken.

“I knew instantly what had happened. I ran inside, dialed the police, they were here within a few minutes, they were already in the neighborhood investigating another break in that happened about 30 minutes before,” says Barry.

Another neighbor who lives on Sugar Creek tells KXAN thieves tried to break into her relatives’ trucks Saturday night. The woman says one truck was parked along the street and one in the driveway, but when the car alarm went off, the suspects started running.

Police arrested these two 17-year-olds and a juvenile in a stolen car on Wednesday morning, in the same area. Police say they may have broken into more cars.

Matt McGuire thinks his car could’ve been one of those cars. He says his truck was stolen five days before that arrest and it’s still missing.

“I got up, took a shower, grabbed my keys, told everybody have a great day, walked out here, and empty spot in the driveway,” says Matt.

These neighbors say they’re sick of all the recent crime.

“We moved to this community to get away from all that,” explains Barry.

Matt says, “We just need to come together as a community, be sure we lock our doors, keep your lights on, if you have security cameras, keep them maintained, and get rid of these folks.”

If you have any information on these crimes, you’re asked to call Buda Police at 512-312-1001.
