Victim identified in West Austin homicide

AUSTIN (KXAN) — Police have identified the man found dead in his West Austin home last week as 75-year-old Phillip Liberty.

Officers originally responded to Liberty’s home in the 7100 block of Las Ventanas Drive around 10:30 a.m. Nov. 19 to check on his welfare. When officers arrived, they discovered Liberty dead in his garage.

The Travis County Medical Examiner’s Office has determined the victim’s death was a homicide. No one has been charged in connection to Liberty’s death.

According to Liberty’s obituary, family and friends say he “could always be counted on to help in a crisis” and that he recently had the opportunity to care for his grandson.
