AUSTIN (KXAN) — The man who was injured after crashing into a restaurant on 6th Street has been arrested for his fourth DWI.
49-year-old Lawrence Farrow collided his van into Sandra Bullock’s former restaurant, Bess Bistro, on Nov. 23 around 6:53 p.m.
Responding police officers found Farrow unconscious in his van with the front portion of the vehicle, described in the affidavit, as completely destroyed. Austin Firefighters were attempting to pry the door open to remove the driver on the 500 block of W 6th Street when officers arrived. According to the affidavit, once Farrow was conscious firefighters were able to remove him from the van while he yelled that he wasn’t hurt.
EMS paramedics and APD officers stated in the arrest affidavit they could immediately smell alcohol coming from Farrow.
A witness who had been driving behind Farrow told officers in the affidavit the van had been going westbound on 6th Street when Farrow revved his engine and cut across three lanes of traffic before crashing into the building. The witness told police Farrow seemed to accelerate to the maximum possible speed before he veered his car at a sharp angle crossing the street.
Farrow was taken to Brackenridge Hospital to treat his serious injuries. It was discovered that Farrow had urinated in his pants when emergency personnel moved him onto a hospital bed from the stretcher.
The affidavit states an emergency room technician told police in the hospital room, “This guy is really intoxicated, and I take it that’s why you are here.”
When asked how much he had to drink Farrow reportedly looked away from the officer and refused to answer any questions.
With glassy blood shot eyes, soaked pants and an odor of alcohol police believed they had enough to go on to arrest Farrow for DWI. The results of the blood alcohol test has yet to be released.
Farrow first two DWIs were in 2003, and the third was in 2004.
