Southwest Austin Taco Cabana closes after fire

AUSTIN (KXAN) — A Taco Cabana in Southwest Austin will be closed all day Wednesday after a small fire broke out overnight.

The fire started at the drive-thru window at the restaurant at the corner of William Cannon and Mopac around 3:30 a.m.

Workers at a nearby Whataburger called 911 after seeing the fire.

Crews were able put out the fire quickly. Fire investigators say the cause was an accidental electrical malfunction in warming equipment in the kitchen.

The Taco Cabana suffered $15,000 in damage.

No one was hurt in the fire.

The Austin Fire Department says the restaurant won’t reopen until health inspectors can check it out, which is standard procedure with restaurant fires.
