BURNET COUNTY, Texas (KXAN) — A man traveling from Colorado to Texas was arrested Friday night in Burnet County for having THC infused edibles in his car.

Steven Coleman
Steven Coleman was arrested for having THC edibles.

The Burnet County Sheriff’s Office said they received a tip that 37-year-old Steven Coleman would be traveling to Burnet to possibly drop-off the drugs. Police stopped him shortly after 10 p.m. and initially arrested him for misdemeanor amounts of marijuana.

During the traffic stop, officers discovered approximately 400 grams of marijuana edibles, which upgraded his charge to a first degree felony. Coleman could face anywhere from 5-99 years for the charge.

While the THC edibles are legal for sale and possession in some states, THC is considered a Penalty Group 2 Controlled Substance in the State of Texas.

“When the substance is manufactured into a candy or novelty form, a child could easily believe it was a food item ok to eat when it is not,” says Chief Deputy Joe Canady.
