CEDAR PARK, Texas (KXAN) — The Travis County Sheriff’s Office says what was initially thought to be a possible road rage incident in the 3100 block of Whitestone Boulevard on Thursday night was actually an illegal transaction that lead to a crash and then shots being fired.

Cedar Park police, an Austin police helicopter and deputies responded to the incident just after 8:00 p.m. Authorities believe people in two separate vehicles were involved in the transaction when the situation became violent and a chase ensued causing the two vehicles to collide. Shots were fired from one of the vehicle’s and the other vehicle drove off. Police believe the person who fired the shots abandoned their vehicle and ran away into a nearby wooded area.

Police say the public is not in any danger at this time.
