‘Hug Lady’ known for sending off, welcoming soldiers is in the hospital

WACO, Texas (NBC) — Since 2003, Elizabeth Laird has been known as the ‘Hug Lady.’

The 83-year-old woman has made it her mission to hug soldiers before they get on the plane to leave for deployments. Laird is also there when soldiers return home. Today she is in the hospital in ICU.

For the last 11 years Laird has been battling breast cancer, and despite her battle she made it a goal to send off and welcome home our troops.

Today, soldiers are returning the favor and visiting her. Elizabeth Laird’s son set up a GoFundMe account to help pay for her medical expenses.
