Friday’s storms left families homeless and some facing rebuilding their home for the second time in two years.

The Austin Disaster Relief Network (ADRN) is also accepting monetary donations. To make a tax-deductible gift to help aid survivors, go to www.adrntx.org and follow the link on the homepage under GIVE (i.e. “October 2015 Flood Fund”) or text ‘FLOOD15’ to 444999.
They are also accepting new pillows, blankets, socks and undergarments. Please drop these items off at the Hope Family Thrift Store located at 1122 East 51st Street in Austin. For more information, call (512) 467-4940. The Teri Road Baptist Church drop-off location closed on Thursday, Nov. 05 as planned.
A Volunteer Reception Center (VRC) will open Sunday Nov. 8, which will launch a coordinated volunteer effort beginning then. The center will provide a central location for interested volunteers to learn about and sign up for volunteer opportunities throughout the area. Volunteer duties will continue throughout the week in clean-up, debris removal, or other duties.
At the VRC, volunteers will:
• Complete a registration form and sign a general release of liability statement.
• Participate in a safety briefing.
• Agree in writing to follow all safety instructions and directions from supervisors at their work sites.
• Receive volunteer assignments for the day.
The VRC will be located at Crossroads Christian House of Prayer, located at 5201 East William Cannon Dr., Austin, TX 78744.
The VRC hours will be as follows:
• Sunday, Nov. 8, 2015 from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m.
• Monday, Nov. 9 to Saturday, Nov. 14 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Limited parking is available at the Onion Creek Soccer Complex, at 5600 East William Cannon, Austin, 78744. Volunteers are strongly encouraged to carpool. If additional parking is necessary and identified it will be posted at austintexas.gov/howtohelp. Volunteers should check for updates daily.
Volunteers are encouraged to sign in at handsoncentraltexas.org before their planned arrival, informing how many people are expected to be in their group and what tools (gloves, shovels, etc.) can be provided.
Volunteers should wear long pants, closed-toed shoes and hats. Please bring sunscreen and bug spray. Volunteers, who do not have a basic understanding of English should be accompanied by a family member or friend who understands English. On-site English/Spanish translators will be provided only if resources are available.
