AUSTIN (KXAN) — A female math teacher at Westlake High School is facing termination after reports surfaced of her sending inappropriate electronic and social media messages to a male student at the school, according to the Eanes ISD superintendent.
In a letter sent home to parents on Monday, the district says Westlake High School administrators found out about the inappropriate conduct on Oct. 23. The district says the teacher—who has been employed with Eanes ISD for three years—has been removed from the classroom and her employment will be terminated, pending Board consideration.
The district also notified Child Protective Services and the Travis County Sheriff’s Office regarding the investigation.
The district says the teacher’s background checks were cleared when she was hired.
“Moving forward, we will continue to cooperate and share information with CPS and law enforcement. We have offered counseling services to the student involved, as well as to any other students who may feel they would like to have a conversation to discuss their thoughts or concerns,” said Dr. Tom Leonard in a letter.
The teacher’s identity has not been released at this time.
