AUSTIN (KXAN) — The county is seeking volunteers to help citizens register to vote. The Travis County Tax Assessor-Collector and Voter Registrar says they need help registering more than 65,000 county residents. That would reach their goal of having 90 percent of the county’s eligible voters registered in time for the 2016 presidential election.
Volunteers would promote voter registration at community events and within social networks, distribute voter registration applications and confirm applications that are completed correctly. Other tasks would include issuing an official receipt as proof of registration and delivering applications to the voter registrar within five days of completion.
There are two upcoming training opportunities for volunteers. The first opportunity is Tuesday, November 3 at 10:30 a.m., 12:30 p.m. or 6:30 p.m. at the Travis County Tax Office (5501 Airport Boulevard). You do not have to register to attend this training.
The second opportunity to attend a training session will be on Saturday, November 14 at 10:00 a.m. at First Unitarian Universalist Church of Austin at 4700 Grover Avenue. Registration for this event is requested and you can do so here.
