Person jumps into Lady Bird Lake after crash on MoPac

AUSTIN (KXAN) — Update: The Austin Police Department says they found the body of the man they believe jumped off of MoPac bridge after crashing his car. APD divers found the body at 8:43 p.m. Saturday night in Lady Bird Lake.

A Medical Examiner is at the scene now. They have not identified the person at this time.

A person jumped into Lady Bird Lake after crashing their car on MoPac Proper Saturday afternoon.

Austin Fire Department, Police Department and Austin-Travis County EMS all responded to calls at 4:24 p.m. of a car crash and reports of a person jumping from MoPac into the water below.

According to ATCEMS, witnesses told paramedics that a car had been driving out of control before it crashed into another car. After that the man in the car left the vehicle and jumped over the side of the bridge and into the water below.

ATCEMS and AFD deployed water rescue assets and rescue swimmers into the water to search for the individual. Water rescue units and swimmers were unable to find the man after searching for 30 minutes.

All ATCEMS and AFD units have been removed from the scene at this time. APD has taken over, and the incident has been changed to Search and Recovery mode.
