Bastrop Co. residents may qualify for voting ID exemption

BASTROP (KXAN) — Voters in Bastrop County may qualify for voting ID exemption in the Nov. 3 election.

Residents that have been affected by the Hidden Pines fire who no longer have their ID’s will still be able to vote.

“If you are a Bastrop County resident who does not have access to your photo ID because of the current wildfires, you can still cast a ballot for the November 3 Election by seeking an exemption,” said Texas Secretary of State Carlos Cascos.

In the case of a declared natural disaster voter ID exemptions go into effect. As of Oct. 15 Gov. Abbott declared the Hidden Pines fire as a Bastrop County disaster.

The voter instead is allowed to sign an affidavit confirming that they no longer have identification due to the fire.
