AUSTIN (KXAN) — Austin police have issued an arrest warrant for a 30-year-old man they believe to be the ring-leader for the large psychedelic mushroom grow operation busted in August.

The warrant accuses Jason Johnson of possessing a controlled substance with the intent to deliver.

The Austin Narcotics Team and Crime Unit began investigations earlier this year, serving a search warrant for the residence at the 6300 block of Berkeley Cove on Aug. 27. According to the affidavit police discovered Johnson’s operation in his empty residence. They are now accusing him of illegally cultivating the mushrooms police found in one of the bedrooms.

Police said they found alive mushrooms growing in addition to recently harvested ones. Scales and capsules were also found in the bathroom connected to the master bedroom in addition to the closet.

A total of 6.55 pounds of mushrooms was seized along with sheets of paper containing a hallucinogen and liquid cannabis in the refrigerator. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
