Hackers targeting unprotected WiFi routers

AUSTIN (KXAN) — Internet users need to check the security of their WiFi after reports were released that hackers are targeting unprotected routers.

According to research from the cyber-security firm Symantec, the custom-built software is nicknamed “Ifwatch” and spreads rapidly. Ifwatch tries to kill any malware on your router.

The hackers’ goals do not seem malicious; they give your device a friendly update that protects your computer from viruses.

Symantec researchers say, so far, there have not been any reports of the hackers using their power for evil.
