AUSTIN (KXAN) — A fatal crash had Highway 183 in Southeast Travis County closed for nearly five hours on Monday.
The three-vehicle crash occurred near Lava Hill South of FM 812 at approximately 7 a.m. The highway was closed until 12 p.m.
A pickup truck was traveling southbound on Highway 183, when for unknown reasons it veered into the northbound lanes of traffic, clipping the rear end of a passenger vehicle, causing it to spin out of control. The truck then hit another pickup head on, according to the Department of Public Safety. The driver of the truck traveling northbound, 23-year-old Homero Segovia of Buda, died at the scene.
Ryan Tanner, 37, of Leander, is allegedly responsible for the crash. He is listed in critical condition at UMC Brackenridge. DPS say charges are pending against Tanner.
There were two pickup trucks and one passenger vehicle involved in the crash.
One of the pickup trucks had been carrying bees. Police say the bees do not pose a threat to community and the owner, a bee-rescuer, was on scene.
Robbie Barrera, DPS spokesperson, said it is important for drivers to pay attention and limit distractions on the road.
The crash is still under investigation.
