Inmate wanted for sexual assault of a child in Austin commits suicide

FORT BEND, Texas (KXAN) — An inmate in the Fort Bend County Jail has died after he attempted suicide while in jail on Sunday, according to the Fort Bend County Sheriff’s Office.

Heriberto Coreas, 40, also known as Miguel Lazo, was wanted for sexual assault of a child in Austin. A Mexican national, Coreas was also wanted for Continued Sexual Assault of a Child in Dallas.

The inmate was found and resuscitated by medical staff after his suicide attempt and taken to Memorial Hermann – Texas Medical Center in Houston later Sunday.

Coreas was in jail for a fatal hit-and-run incident last Friday night in Houston. He left the scene of the incident and was later caught by Houston police officers.
