LEANDER (KXAN) — Two northbound lanes have been shutdown on highway 183 after a crash involving a bicyclist.

The 62-year-old bicyclist was traveling northbound on 183 when he collided with a Nissan. The bicyclist was not wearing a helmet and is in critical condition.

The crash occurred around 6:45 a.m. in Leander at the 500 block of 183 just south of FM 2243, near Leander Middle School. The scene of the crash is not on the toll road of 183, but the main lanes running through Leander.

Leander Police were on the scene investigating the crash.

Leander Police Sgt. Ryan Doyle said “he was not wearing a vest. He was actually wearing dark colored clothing, which we think contributed to the collision. We have evidence that leads us to believe there were no lights or anything on the bike. Possibly a headlight, no taillight, and the vehicle struck him from behind.”
