UT Speedway Mall Project has students in mind

AUSTIN (KXAN) — An update for the Speedway Mall Project at the University of Texas will be announced today.

The goal of the project is to completely reconstruct Speedway; all the way from the Jack S. Blanton Museum to Dean Keeton Street. This area will be transformed into a new pedestrian mall; making it easier for students to get around.

The space will provide room for activities; like outdoor learning, campus festivities and concerts.

Emergency and campus vehicles will be the only ones able to get through.

Construction on the project begins next month and is slated to finish at the end of 2017.

The update on the project will be given on Monday, Sept. 28 from 3-5 p.m. at the Student Activity Center (SAC) Ballroom, 2201 Speedway.
