Metz Elementary returns to normal after bomb scare

AUSTIN (KXAN) — Metz Elementary School in East Austin is functioning normally after being given the all-clear after a nearby threat proved false.

Austin police say the bomb threat was made in the 2000 block of Garden Street just before 11 a.m., but it doesn’t appear the threat was directed at the school at this time. As a precaution, the school was put under a shelter in place, which means operations continues as normal but the children are not allowed outside.

Investigators found an item in a nearby manhole drain, but the item was declared not dangerous.

The ‘shelter in place’ was lifted after 1 p.m.
