AUSTIN (KXAN) — Firefighters are cleaning up after a house fire broke out in Rollingwood early Monday morning.

According to the Austin Fire Department, flames broke out at a two-story home in the 300 block of Nixon Dr. around 2:00 a.m.

Firefighters say flames were shooting through the roof when they arrived. They were able to contain the fire to just the upper section of the home, and prevent it from jumping to any trees or neighboring homes.

Smoke alarms alerted the woman who lived there. She and her dog were able to get out of the home safely. Neighbors are giving her a place to stay for the time being.

Austin Fire Department assisted Westlake Fire crews on the scene.

Officials say the fire caused $150,000 in damages but have not yet released the cause. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
