BURNET, Texas (KXAN) — Update: The teacher placed on administrative leave will not be punished, according to Superintendent Keith McBurnett.
He says no offense was committed and the police are not filing charges. The superintendent says that if parents have any concerns, they can talk to the principal.
11:11 a.m. — A teacher at Burnet Elementary has been suspended while the school district and police department investigate a complaint. The investigations come after students were sent home with a letter on Friday saying a small group of parents requested meetings with the school’s principal regarding concerns with a teacher in the first grade bilingual class.
The letter states while meeting with the parents individually on Sept. 23, the district learned at least one parent already made a report against the teacher to the Burnet Police Department.
Police said they are waiting to interview the Spanish speaking student about the criminal complaint while the district placed the teacher on administrative leave the day the complaint was made.
The nature of the complaint is still unknown and the district said they would be unable to share any further information.
