Woman hit by car, killed on Hwy 290

East 290 ramp closed.

AUSTIN (KXAN) — The Sunset Valley Police Department has identified the victim as Christina Medina, 37, of Austin Texas. Her family has been notified at this time.


A woman has died in a crash on eastbound U.S. 290 in South Austin.

The crash occurred at about 6:15 Friday morning on the eastbound main lanes of the highway.

According to Sunset Valley police, the driver of a two door car was on his way to work when he struck the woman who was on foot. The driver stayed on the scene of the crash. Police say he was obviously distraught.

The main lanes of eastbound 290 were closed at Monterrey Oaks Boulevard. The lanes reopened before 10 a.m. on Friday.

The Sunset Valley Police Department is handling the case.
