Williamson County Sheriff not running for reelection

Sheriff James R. Wilson

WILLIAMSON COUNTY (KXAN) — The Williamson County Sheriff, James R. Wilson, has announced that he will not be running for reelection once his current term ends.

This means as of Dec. 31, 2016, when Wilson’s term is over, there will be a new Sheriff in town.

Lt. Mike Cowie has received an endorsement from Wilson. Currently Cowie works for the Criminal Investigation Division of the Sheriff’s Office. Cowie previously worked for the Texas Department of Public Safety retiring in 2007 and starting his new job at the Williamson County Sheriff’s Office that year.

Sheriff Wilson said he is grateful for the continued support from the Williamson County community while acting as Sheriff. He looks forward to being able to spend more time with friends and family following his retirement.
