Animal rescue groups hold Strut your Mutt event

The Best Friends Animal Society hopes to raise $2.6 million in 2015, with $200,00 coming from Austin.

AUSTIN (KXAN) — 19 Austin-area rescue groups came together Saturday morning to participate in the Best Friends Strut Your Mutt fundraiser walk.

The event, which happened at Mueller Lake had hundreds of participants, and featured dog-related vendors.

The event also included a 5K run that both runners and their pups could race in.

The Best Friends Animal Society, a national animal welfare organization dedicated to making shelters no-kill has held the event since 2010, raising more than $5.2 million for its animal welfare partners. It hopes to raise $2.6 million in 2015, with $200,00 coming from Austin.
