Workshop helps local musicians make money for their music

AUSTIN (KXAN) — A free workshop in Austin aims to help local musicians earn the most for their creations.

Stephanie Bergara joined us in the studio to discuss the Get Your Money workshop.

The City of Austin Economic Development Department’s Music and Entertainment Division is hosting the workshop with SoundExchange, and the Intellectual Property Rights Distribution Fund of the American Federation of Musicians to help local musicians collect unclaimed royalties.

“Digital radio plays new music from new artists all the time, so the list of artists with royalties owed to them constantly evolves.  Even if your name is not on the current list of artists with money waiting, you should still attend the workshop to sign up for future royalties,” said Kevin Johns, Director of Austin Economic Development Department.  “The Austin Music Census told us that our artists are working hard and we want to help them get all the money to which they’re entitled.”

The workshop is from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Entrepreneur Center of Austin, which is in the Brodie Oaks Shopping Center near Toys R Us.
