AUSTIN (KXAN) – An intoxicated man ran into traffic on the University of Texas drag near 23rd Street and Guadalupe Street and caused a car wreck Tuesday afternoon, according to an arrest warrant.

Police charged 20-year-old Nicholas Alan Acosta with assault on a police officer, resisting a search and transport, and public intoxication following the incident. UT police officers struggled to subdue Acosta, the affidavit states.

“(Acosta) was saying he was going to run into traffic and had suicidal ideations,” according to an officer statement in the affidavit.

Police said they asked Acosta what he was high on, and Acosta replied that he was drunk not high.

Police said Acosta struggled with one officer after being handcuffed and dug his fingernails into the officer’s hand.
