Meet the two vying for the vacancy on the Austin ISD school board

Austin ISD District 7 Applicants: Yasmin Wagner and Dale Sump

AUSTIN (KXAN) — This week the community will get the chance to meet the two candidates competing for the open spot on the Austin Independent School District board of trustees.

Yasmin Wagner and Dale Sump both submitted applications to represent District 7 in Southwest Austin after long-time board member Robert Schneider died of cancer.

Sump is an accountant with the Texas General Land Office. Over the years, Robert Schneider appointed him to numerous bond oversight committees. He currently serves on a committee for the performing arts center.

Wagner is a corporate marketing and communications manager for the city of Austin, and has two children in AISD schools. She ran against Schneider during last year’s election, and came very close to garnering enough votes for a runoff.

Both sat down with KXAN education reporter Erin Cargile Sunday morning on KXAN News Today for a Q & A before they take on questions during three community forums:

  • Tuesday, Sept. 15: Bowie High School, 7-8 p.m.
  • Thursday, Sept. 17: Covington Middle Schol, noon-1 p.m.
  • Saturday, Sept. 19: Baranoff Elementary School, 11 a.m.-noon
