Man dies from injuries after South Austin auto vs. pedestrian crash

AUSTIN (KXAN) – A man Austin police believe was not walking in a crosswalk when he was hit by a vehicle, the night of Sept. 8, has died, according to police.

The man who died has been identified as 48-year-old Robert Daniel Reyes. The auto vs. pedestrian crash happened around 9 p.m. in the 6500 block of Manchaca Road. Investigators determined Reyes attempted to cross Manchaca west-bound when he was hit by a 2013 Lexus heading south.

He was transported to UMC Brackenridge with a broken leg and possible head and spinal injuries. He died Wednesday night.

Police don’t believe the driver was under the influence of alcohol or that speed played a factor in the crash.

The crash is still being investigated.

This is Austin’s 68th fatal traffic crash and the 77th fatality of 2015.
