Texas schools rank among top colleges in the country

AUSTIN, Texas (KXAN) — Two lists out today are naming the top colleges in the U.S.

Drum roll please.

According to Collegefactual.com Yale is ranked number one.

The rankings were based on graduation rates, freshman retention rates, the number of full-time teachers and the number of students who default on loans.

Last year the University of Pennsylvania held the number one spot. They fell to number two this year.

Duke University came in third.

Another list released by the U.S. News and World Report named Princeton as the best college in the America.

They compiled their list based on majors, post undergraduate programs, and research.

Harvard was number two, followed by Yale.

Rice was the only Texas school to rank in the top 20 coming in at number 18.

The University of Texas at Austin moved up a spot, from 53 to 52.

Other Texas schools fell in rank, but still made the top 100.

  • Southern Methodist University went from 58 last year, to 61 this year
  • Texas A&M was 68, now 70
  • Baylor was from 71 to 72
  • Texas Christian University went from 76 to 82
