NEW BRAUNFELS, Texas (KXAN) – New Braunfels Police Department has released video of a man firing a gun at one of their officers in October of 2014.
According to NBPD, on Oct. 20, Richard Cantu Vasquez ran when an officer approached him while he was standing outside a home in the 1800 block of Stonewall. Officers were on scene after a domestic disturbance call that allegedly involved a gun.
While fleeing, Vasquez fired three shots from a handgun towards the officer. Those shots were caught on a police unit’s dashcam.
This is the full NBPD video:
Vasquez was caught, indicted and convicted. He was sentenced to serve 30 years in prison for Attempted Capital Murder of a Police Officer, and sentenced to 15 years in prison for Aggravated Assault against a Public Servant, with the sentences to be served concurrently.
Because of the use of a deadly weapon, he will have to serve at least half of that sentence before becoming eligible for parole.
