AUSTIN (KXAN)- Austin ISD continues to enroll children in its pre-k programs as new research shows the importance of early child education.

According to the E3 Alliance, only 53 percent of Central Texas students were ready to enter kindergarten.

The group also said kindergartners who had experience in pre-k were three times more likely to be ready for school.

And when it came to low-income kindergartners, the group says they are four times more likely to be ready for school if they went to pre-K.

So to enroll your child in pre-K, AISD officials want you to bring the following items: the child’s birth certificate, immunization record, parent/guardian photo ID, proof of income, and proof of address.

AISD will continue its pre-K enrollment period through the school year.

Here’s who can qualify.
