On Tuesday, Aug. 18, Austin I.S.D. Superintendent Dr. Paul Cruz was on KXAN News Today to talk about the upcoming school year and to answer your questions. This upcoming school year will be Cruz’ first full school year as the superintendent.

Austin ISD Stats:

  • Approximately 85,000 students
  • 129 schools
  • Attendance rate: 95.3 percent

New Programs at AISD:
• Expanding early college high school to Travis High
• Expanding dual-language to some middle schools
Expanding Pre-K 3, now at 14 schools

Out of District Transfers
• First year to allow people from out of district to apply to AISD
• So far more than 200 applicants
• Allows more people to take advantage of our great programs

Recent Successes
• 73 AISD schools earned 220 Distinction Designations from TEA
• AISD exceeded all targets of state accountability system overall
• Graduation rate increases to 86.3 percent, dropout rates decreases to 1.5 percent provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
