Buda, TX (KXAN) — A string of over a dozen car burglaries has residents in Buda on high alert.
Wallace Savant woke up the other day to some unsettling news from his wife. While he slept, thieves had targeted his truck.
“I was just getting out of bed, and she said you need to come out here, your trucks are on blocks, they took all four wheels,” Savant said.
A box sitting on the driveway caught Savant’s attention. Little did he know, it would help lead police to a suspect.
“They bought a meal and paid for it with a credit card and the credit card receipt was still in the box,” Savant tells. Buda police traced that receipt to a convenience store in Austin.
A surveillance camera captured a photo of a man police said is wanted for Savant’s break-in and a dozen others, including people in the nearby Elm Grove neighborhood.
Folks in Elm Grove feel like the thieves not only took their possessions, but their peace. As a mom of two boys, the crimes have Shelly Allen on guard.
“My husband calls me helicopter mom, because I am, you know, everything we do, I am out watching, it has changed our livelihood,” said Allen.
Savant hopes whoever committed the crime doesn’t come back again.
“I don’t want to see him, because I am afraid of what I’d tell him.”
Police said the burglar took credit cards, an envelope with $250 inside and even a man’s wedding band.
