AUSTIN (KXAN) — Thanks to surveillance video, Austin police were able to arrest a man they say robbed several stores in one day.
Police say on Aug. 5, 48-year-old Melvin Latchett robbed three businesses in the span of 24 hours. The first call came in at 4 a.m. from a 7-Eleven in the 3000 block of Airport Bouelvard. The victims said a man came in holding something under his shirt and demanded money and cigarettes.
The next robbery happened just a couple of hours later at the Walgreens in the 1000 block of Airport Boulevard. The third robbery happened later that day at a Diamond Shamrock in the 4000 block of Springdale Road.
The following morning, police officers responded to a family disturbance at 5800 Techni Center Dr. While questioning the individuals involved, police said the man’s description matched the suspect in the robberies.
Robbery investigators interviewed the suspect and found out he was on parole for a 30-year sentence for robbery in Abilene.
Latchett was arrested and charged with three counts of robbery by threat.
