9 Downtown Austin robbery cases linked to 3 suspects

AUSTIN (KXAN) — Police are now looking for three men they say are targeting and robbing women in Downtown Austin. Authorities believe the suspects are linked to nine robberies since the beginning of June.

The suspects are mainly targeting women who are walking to their cars between the hours of 2-4 a.m. during the weekend.

“As we are aware, downtown has dark areas and lit areas and these victims are being caught in the dark,” said Det. Steven Nash.

Since they started releasing information about the possible suspects, detectives have received more information about a third suspect and two other suspect vehicles. The suspects may live in or frequent the Hays County area.

The suspects are described as:

Suspect #1

  • Hispanic male
  • Early 20s
  • Approximately 5’9” in height
  • Beard
  • Has a distinctive walk
  • Heavy set build

Suspect #2

  • Black male
  • Early 20s
  • Approximately 6’ in height
  • Shoulder-length dread locks
  • Thin build

Suspect #3

  • Black male
  • Mid 20s
  • Athletic build
  • Short hair
  • Tattoo on left arm

The original suspect vehicle is described as a gray or tan 4-door sedan, possibly Chevy Malibu, with collision damage to the left rear of the vehicle.The two other vehicles are a maroon 4-door and a white 4-door.

While most of the victims have been women, authorities want to remind everyone to be aware of their surroundings and to report suspicious activities immediately to 9-1-1.
