Memorial dedicated to former Texas Governor Pendelton Murrah

The Sons of Confederate Veterans raised enough money to build a cenotaph to honor the former governor at the Texas State Cemetery.

AUSTIN (KXAN) — Saturday morning the Sons of Confederate Veterans held a memorial service and dedication ceremony for Pendelton Murrah, the tenth Governor of Texas who held the position during the Civil War.

The group raised enough money to build a cenotaph to honor the former governor at the Texas State Cemetery.

“Well, Murrah lies in an unmarked grave now but not forgotten. He is remembered by those of us who acknowledge his fortitude and his determination as the last governor of Texas during our war between the states,” said a spokesperson for the group during the ceremony Saturday.

No confederate battle flags were officially flown at the event, but some could be seen on cars and other locations.
